Curriculum - Aims
At
Hungerford we set high standards, both for ourselves and for the
children, and we aim to provide a quality education. We want the
children who are entrusted to us in their primary years to enjoy, and
learn from, all new experiences and challenges and to achieve to their
full potential. Therefore our aims are:-
-
to help children settle happily into school and build up trusting relationships with staff and peers;
-
to encourage children to feel a sense of pride in their school so that they respect and care for their surroundings;
-
to motivate children to learn, and help them to develop positive self-esteem and confidence;
-
to provide a friendly, caring and stimulating environment where children can develop lively, enquiring minds and discover the joy and fun of learning;
-
to teach in ways which give children opportunities for practical and investigative work through which they can solve problems and express themselves freely;
-
to actively involve children in their learning and to encourage them by celebrating achievement in all areas;
-
to create a whole school ethos that reflects equality of opportunity, develops positive self-image and fosters mutual respect;
-
to encourage children to become independent and co-operative learners;
-
to encourage an understanding and respect for others' religions, beliefs and life styles, and to gain from the cultural richness of our multiethnic society;
-
to create a structured and well-disciplined atmosphere where children can develop a sense of self-discipline and collective responsibility;
-
to discourage all forms of bullying and harassment;
-
to involve parents and carers as fully as possible in their children's learning and progress, in partnership with governors and the wider community.
