Cooking on the Curriculum at Hungerford

Learning about good food and cooking is very important and enjoyable part of life at Hungerford School. Cooking activities are integrated into lessons – writing and following a recipe in literacy, sharing a pizza to learn about fractions in maths. The children also learn about healthy food and take an active role in growing vegetables, salads and herbs in the school garden.

School dinners are an important part of the school day, when children sit down together to eat a nutritious meal. Many pupils join the after-school cooking club or bring their parents along to the Family Kitchen cooking sessions. Hungerford School recently achieved Food for Life Partnership status (one of only eight schools to do so in London) and this has helped us to access extra resources for food and cooking in school.
