EMAS
Like London, this school is a rich mix of cultures and ethnicities. Like every other school in Islington, there is no ethnic majority at Hungerford. We have teachers or families from every continent in the world except Antarctica (and that’s only because no one lives there). In the last couple of years we have had anything up to 35 languages spoken in our homes and about half of our school community has English as an additional language. We are about a third Muslim, two fifths Christian and one fifth of no faith.
The job of the EMAS department is to
* Make sure every child gets as much as they can from being at school
We do this by
* keeping tabs on how children are learning and helping support those falling behind
* helping teachers keep up to date with ways to break down barriers to learning and giving in class support
* providing learning support and assessment in our main home languages
* helping make sure our curriculum reflects the diversity of the school so we can all learn from each other.
London is right up there with New York as the world’s leading global city. Our school celebrates that and is part of it.
