Curriculum - Health
All children attending school are seen by the
school doctor or nurse at regular intervals. The first assessment takes
place shortly after children come into reception (Blue) class and it is
very important that a parent attends.
Routine dental, eye and ear inspections are carried out and you will be
informed if your child has any problems or needs treatment. The school
nurse will test eyesight and hearing if you have concerns. She visits
the school every week and you can make an appointment with her through
the school secretary.
There is no longer a regular check for head lice but we ask parents to
be observant and to notify us immediately of any infestation. If your
child should pick up some head lice, you can get a special shampoo from
the chemist.
We have no facilities for storing or administering short-term
medicines, e.g. penicillin or antibiotics. Any child who requires such
treatment should be kept at home until the course of medicine is
finished, unless a parent is able to come into school at lunchtime to
administer the correct dosage. In emergencies parents may give written
permission for a willing adult to administer the medicine but this can
only be done after consulting the Headteacher. Exemptions to this rule
are treatments for asthma, diabetes, etc., which children can
administer themselves.
It is important that the school is notified of any special medical
needs or concerns. Please be assured that all matters of personal
health and hygiene are treated in confidence by the school.
Accidents and Sickness
Whilst every effort is made to ensure that children are properly
supervised at all times, accidents do happen. Also, children are
occasionally taken ill during the day. It is very important that
we have up to date information on how parents and carers can be
contacted in cases of emergency. Children become very distressed if
they are unwell and have to wait for a long time to be collected.
We need your contact telephone number and at least one number for a
relative or friend who could look after your child in these situations.
Please let us know of any changes of address, telephone number, doctor
or family circumstances.
In the unfortunate event that your child suffers an injury at home.
Please inform your child’s teacher to avoid embarrassment when we are
required to ask you how the injury occurred.
