Extended School - Overview
We
make every effort to ensure that we have good liaison with other
nursery, primary and secondary schools in our area. We welcome students
from secondary schools and local colleges to do work experience in our
school. We also have nursery nurse and teacher students undertaking
classroom experience as part of their training courses.
The neighbourhood police officer visits the school regularly to
talk to groups of children about safety. Other visitors include local
faith leaders who come to lead assemblies and /or talk to individual
classes and representatives from various charities for which the
children raise funds.
We have strong links with our local day care centre for the elderly
who are invited into school for special events. Our children visit them
too and have found them to be a useful resource when working on
projects to do with local history. Good use is also made of community
resources such as Freightliners Farm, John Barnes Library and local
parks and places of worship.
We welcome new initiatives within the community and endeavour to
support community activities and groups whenever possible. We aim to
provide a base for community support projects and this year along with
Adult Literacy Classes for women, for whom English is an additional
language, we will be providing housing and legal advice through a local
charity on a fortnightly basis.
