At Hungerford we aim to increase the activity levels, quality and well being of the whole school through the provision of a supportive environment that encourages and enhances physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
Pupils in KS1 and KS2 are timetabled to have 2 hour lessons of P.E a week. A broad and balanced curriculum is delivery by teaching staff.
Teachers deliver 2 hours of P.E during curriculum time. To provide sporting activities during clubs. We ensure opportunities for pupils across both key stages are given to participate in sports teams that develop and enhance children’s excellence and enjoyment within the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda.
The Foundation Stage plan for both indoor and outdoor physical development. Outdoor play activities such as games skills, gardening and painting require both gross and fine motor skills. Staff provide value to varied and stimulating outdoor activities that play such an important part in the physical development of children in the nursery and reception.
The school is sensitive to the needs and skills of the inividual, and physical activity provision is inclusive of all abilities and pupils whether the pupils are physically gifted or challenged.
Pupils are educated to make informed decisions about their own health and well being. By building on their own confidence they have the opportunity to take advantage of physical activity opportunities in the local community and move to a culture of independence. Levels of involvement in physical activity are formally monitored both inside and outside of school by assessment within school curriculum time and records of attendance at OSHL sports clubs.
To enjoy healthy, active and fulfilling lives, children are given opportunities to learn to respond positively to challenges, to recognise and manage risk and to develop their self-confidence and physical capabilities. Such learning lays the foundation for long-term wellbeing and contributes to mental, social, emotional, economic and physical development.
