About Us - Welcome
We
hope that this website will give you plenty of information about our
school. Do come and visit, we will be very happy to show you around.
Please make an appointment through the school secretaries, Carol
Tuckfield and Elaine Wallace.
Whether your child is coming into the nursery, the reception class or transferring from another school or area, our first concern is to ensure that they settle happily and enjoy working here.
Hungerford is a two-form entry primary school with an on-site nursery. There are approximately 400 children on roll and they are organised according to age in parallel classes. Although we are a large school our class sizes are quite small and the individual needs of children are given a high priority.
The school serves an area of great ethnic diversity. We see this as a positive strength and find many ways to celebrate the richness of language and culture represented within the school community.
Hungerford School is a community where individual talents, abilities and personalities are valued. We believe that our caring and secure atmosphere encourages trust and respect between all members of the school community: this is central to the school ethos.
Parental support and encouragement are vital in the learning process and we look forward to developing a close working partnership between home and school. We send out regular newsletters to keep parents and carers informed of our activities and projects and your involvement in these will be welcomed by us all, so do join us whenever you can.

Premises and Environment
The
school currently uses two buildings but all classes are now situated in
the Victorian building. In September 2001 our new Foundation Stage
centre opened for nursery and reception classes on the ground floor.
This provides an excellent learning space for our youngest children.
Children
in Key Stage 1 moved into the newly decorated and equipped classrooms
in September 2004. All rooms have been refurbished and Interactive
White Boards installed in Years 2 and 6. The Victorian building
accommodates the main reception area (where visitors should report),
secretaries' and Head teacher's offices, staff room, library, ICT suite,
music room, three large halls and various store cupboards and offices.
The
school is fortunate to have a large, landscaped outside play area and
plenty of hard-surface play space. The nursery and reception children
have their own playground with climbing apparatus and many other play
activities. The children in Key Stages 1 and 2 share the playground
however; the space is zoned to allow children to interact safely and
different activities available in certain areas. Much has been done to
make the old school playground more attractive and a wildlife area,
dedicated to the memory of Fred White a former governor, is used for
curriculum studies. The Playground space will be completely refurbished
over the next two years as part of the site developments planned.
The
New Bridge Special School and Professional Development Centre is to be
built on the site of the Infant's Building and is due to open in
September 2006. As part of our Full Service Extended School Provision a
Sure Start Children's Centre will also move from the Infants building
into a newly refurbished building in the Playground.
