Hungerford Children’s Centre offers a range of community services, childcare and statutory nursery & reception classes. Our aim is to work in partnership with parents/carers so that every child can reach their full potential. We believe every child is unique and can continue to build positive relationships while being cared for in our setting. Focussed support from practitioners, and especially key workers, at Hungerford promotes learning and development in a caring and enabling environment.
The child is at the centre of our community where each is unique; all are welcome; everyone can grow.

Baby Room

Our bright and inviting baby room has it’s own outside area and is spacious inside. It is a secure, safe and happy place. Our practitioners are dedicated to promoting a caring atmosphere which is imaginative, stimulating and above all, fun!
The indoor space is divided into separate distinct areas. The wet and messy play area allows children to explore their senses through paint, sand, water, play dough and more. The carpeted area is used for reading, construction and role play.
Babies take their naps in cots or on foldaway mattresses. There is a separate changing and washing area. The babies get used to a routine of play, snack time, naps and meals. Each is supported by their own assigned key worker.
Key workers will keep you informed on your child’s development by adding to their profile book. Key Workers are always available to meet with parents.
Toddler Room

Age = 2—3 years
The toddler room has it’s own outside garden area with both grass and hard surface areas. It has been designed especially for toddlers with fixed play equipment. It is directly accessed from the toddler room.
Toddlers have 3 distinct areas. A large area for wet and messy play which allows children to continue to develop their senses through paint, sand, water, play dough and more. Another area is used for puzzles, construction and creating small worlds in which to play.
The book area is warm and inviting and encourages children to enter and explore the wonderful world of books.

Nursery

Age = 3—4 years
Both of our nurseries are bright and engaging spaces with large outside areas. All children are entitled to 15 hours of nursery provision free of charge starting the term after their third birthday. Our nursery teams work together to create an environment where children can play and learn together with the support of their assigned key workers.
The nursery on the Goodinge site has 32 places. The provision consists of 2 rooms with a shared toilet facility between them. Both rooms have doors leading directly to a spacious outdoor play area which allows a range of activities and learning opportunities. There is a climbing frame with slide, a grassed area, a digging area and ample space to ride trikes and scooters. Children can access the outdoor space in any weather as there is an overhang which shelters from the rain and shades from the sun.
The nursery on the Hungerford site has 52 places. There is a large room with clearly defined learning spaces. There are toilet facilities, a cloakroom and foyer. From the nursery children can directly access the large outdoor space which allows a range of activities and learning opportunities. There is a climbing frame with slide, a vegetable patch, a digging area, space to ride trikes and scooters, a minibeast area and a flower garden.
Reception

Age = 4—5 years
Children enter reception in the academic year that they are 5. In this year children are expected to wear the school uniform. Play continues to be the main way in which children learn. In reception children are introduced to fundamental elements of primary school learning.
There are two reception classes on our Hungerford site in adjacent classrooms. Reception classes work together as one unit during some sessions enabling them to target specific children’s needs and interests.
Each classroom has clearly defined learning spaces with a shared inside area which can be used for smaller group work. Reception children have regular access to our large outside play area.
